Revive: to regain life, consciousness, or strength.

I have been toying with the idea of reviving my blog yet again, for various reasons. This has always been "my space" and a way of letting my creative juices flow. I also feel that I have grown so much in the past two years and I have a certain amount of wisdom and experience to share.

Here's to a great new start and thank you for your support!

Floss like a boss! - Oral Health Month

This September, national Oral Health Month, learn how to ‘floss like a boss’ with international oral care brand Sunstar GUM*. Cleaning in-between the teeth can be quick and easy if you have the right tools and know how to do it correctly. (image source)

The following Sunstar GUM floss & interdental tools are available at selected Clicks, dentists,

I know many people, myself included, who dread flossing everyday. Trying out these two products has made me realize that with the right floss, it really can be a quick addition to your daily routine.

How to Floss Like a Boss
By Dirna Grobbelaar, Ivohealth’s Oral Hygiene Advisor

1. Take about 30cm of floss
2. Wind the floss around your middle fingers
3. Hold it floss between thumbs and index fingers
4. Slide the floss in-between teeth using a gentle back-and-forth sawing action
5. Fold floss around the side of a tooth in a C-shape
6. Slide the floss up and down, against tooth and just under the gum line
7. Repeat on the neighbouring tooth
8. Pull out and repeat using a clean section of the floss

GUM Soft-Picks Advanced (RRP R89) Disposable dental picks with soft rubber bristles that gently massage and stimulate gums. Ideal for adults and children.

GUM Trav-Lers (RRP R101) Tiny interdental brushes, ideal for normal teeth, big gaps and around crowns, bridges, implants or orthodontics.

My Husband is a pick-a-holic and he loved the soft picks. They are bendable to get into those hard to reach spaces and they reduce any bleeding of the gums whilst picking. I am a fan of the small travel case you get with the picks, just perfect for my handbag.

GUM Easy Flossers (RRP R50): Great for adults and children, with an easy to grip handle.

These easy flossers are perfect for on-the-go. When you are running around, there is just no time to measure out floss and follow home flossing procedure. If you are out at a restaurant and need to get a quick floss in after your meal, pop into the restroom and use your easy flossers.

Dental hygiene is really important so share these awesome flossing products with your friends and family! Visit the IVO Health website for more hygiene tips and ticks and find a comprehensive list of dental brands and products.

My Top 3 Newborn Must Haves

Our precious little girl is three months old now, quickly navigating our way from newborn to baby. These first few weeks, getting to know our daughter, has been amazing but there is a clear line drawn of what she wants and what she simply will not tolerate. Here are the top 3 things that made these first three months easier and provided me with some sanity.*

1. Soothies - I bought these Avent Soothies after seeing many moms use them during the everlasting "Wubbanub craze". I really thought these would be just like any other pacifier/dummy but I was surprisingly wrong. It was so helpful in the first few weeks whilst Q and I were learning to breastfeed. It taught her to suck with a wide open mouth which in turn made her latch on so much better. I did a test once by giving her a normal pacifier and at her next feeding she didn't open her mouth as wide and we had difficulty getting a comfortable latch. That being said, at about 6 weeks, once we both knew we were in a good breastfeeding routine, she weaned herself off of the Soothie and preferred normal pacifiers/dummies. If you are interested in trying the Soothies on your newborn, I would recommend only buying two because they use it for a short time (in my experience).

2. Glow baby App - I was inadequately prepared for tracking Q's every poop, feed and sleep pattern. Nurses in the hospital popped into my room every few hours and asked so many questions on what Q was up to since they last checked. Did she feed?, for how long?, did she have a nappy change?, what did it contain?, has she slept!? I was already so overwhelmed with having a new baby and operating on very little sleep, remembering ever detail was just impossible (but still made me feel like I was failing as a new mom). I searched for tracking app's from my hospital bed to help my stress levels and Glow Baby was my favourite. You can time feedings, time naps and track nappy changes with a comprehensive list of other options like tracking weight etc. This is really an all-in-one app which I still use to this day for tracking Q's feeds. 3. Tasty drops - I in no way have a colicy baby but there are times that Q cries for no real reason and I found having some tasty drops on hand helps soothe her when she herself doesn't know whats wrong. I use the Telament Colic drops which has a sweet milky "medicine" taste as well as Spasmopep Junior which has a very strong sweet herbal taste (her favourite). I especially use these drops when she is going to sleep because she does fight a bit. It calms her enough to drift off. You could also use gripe water but I have found these two easier to have on hand as they have little droppers in the bottles already, making it less messy and more convenient.
